A couple is accusing banking giant Chase of locking them out of their home and removing their personal property before a foreclosure was finalized.

Banks across the country have faced similar accusations. Lenders have argued they have the right to “secure” vacant properties they’ll soon own, but lawyers say it’s trespassing or breaking and entering when home owners still own the title of the property and the banks don’t yet.

Analytics firm CoreLogic rolled out IntelliMods Thursday, a new Web-based application that aims to expedite the loan modification decision-making process for mortgage servicers seeking to make loan modification decisions.

CoreLogic says the tool allows servicers to bypass manual loan modification calculations by submitting borrower profiles through IntelliMods, which is designed to determine a borrower's loan modification eligibility.

A class action lawsuit has been filed against CitiMortgage in New Jersey, alleging that the lender improperly denied mortgage loan modifications to borrowers while reaping the financial benefits of a federal program meant to provide them.

The suit was filed on behalf of New Jersey homeowners who were denied permanent loan modifications under the Home Affordable Modification Program (HAMP) federal anti-foreclosure initiative.

Loan modification hell: Judging by the number of people who are contacting me, the problem is getting worse - not better. Starting Sunday, I will be attending the Five Star Conference, in Dallas, sitting on a panel moderated by FOX News’ Chris Wallace. This is a conference for lenders who service loans that are in default and the vendors that feed into that conference.

How many folks is that exactly? Try 5,000+. Yup: 5,000 lenders, servicers, and folks like Robert Klein, of Safeguard Properties, whose company does 1 million inspections of homes whose owners have either defaulted on their loans or have been foreclosed on by their lender. (I had a truly eye-opening conversation with Klein earlier this week.
